It is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is a range rather than a number. Ceramic coating pricing in Austin varies widely because the phrase covers everything from a spray sealant applied over a dirty car in an hour to a multi-day correction and coating on a supercar. Here is what actually moves the price, so you can read any quote — ours or anyone else's — and understand what you are being sold.
The short answer
For professional coating work on a well-kept vehicle, expect roughly $800 at the entry end and $2,500 or more for larger vehicles, longer-life systems, or paint that needs correction first. Our own ceramic coating work sits in that range. A quote well below it usually means either no correction, a shorter-life product, or both — which can be a perfectly reasonable choice, as long as you know that is what you are buying.
1. Paint preparation is most of the labour
A coating bonds to whatever surface it is applied to, so everything underneath gets locked in. On a new car that might mean a wash, decontamination and a single enhancement pass. On a three-year-old daily that has been through tunnel washes, it can mean a full multi-stage correction taking two days before a drop of coating is opened. Preparation, not the bottle, is where the hours and the cost sit.
2. Vehicle size and panel complexity
A two-seat coupe has far less surface area than a three-row SUV, and complexity matters as much as size — deep vents, aero elements, exposed carbon and intricate wheels all add masking and hand work. Two cars of identical footprint can differ meaningfully in labour.
3. The coating system and its expected life
Coating chemistry ranges from consumer-grade products lasting a year or two to professional-only systems with much longer expected life and correspondingly higher material and application cost. Longer-life systems also demand tighter application conditions, which pushes labour up as well.
4. Coverage beyond the paint
Glass, wheel faces and barrels, exposed trim and interior surfaces can all be coated. Each is a genuine add-on with its own labour. Wheel coating in particular is popular here because it makes brake dust release far more easily.

5. Condition, and what the paint has been through
Hard-water spotting that has already etched, sanding marks from a prior body repair, holograms from a previous polish, or a car parked under sap-heavy trees — all of these add correction time. This is why a photograph of a clean car tells us less than an inspection does.
Why we quote per vehicle instead of publishing package prices
Publishing one figure would mean either overcharging the straightforward cars or under-scoping the difficult ones and then revising the price on the day. We would rather look at the paint, tell you what it needs, and put a number in writing before anything starts. If correction is optional we will say so and price it both ways.
Is it worth it?
It depends entirely on how long you are keeping the car and how it is washed. On a vehicle you plan to own for years and maintain by hand, a coating reduces wash effort, keeps gloss, and slows the accumulation of swirls — the ownership cost usually looks reasonable spread over that time. On a car being sold in six months, or one that will keep going through a brush tunnel wash, the money is better spent elsewhere.
