Soft paint, Alcantara cabins and cars that are actually driven
Overview
Porsches in Austin fall into two camps: the garage-kept weekend 911 and the daily-driven Macan or Cayenne. They need very different visits, but they share the same technical quirks — a soft finish that marrs easily, interiors specified with Alcantara and open-pore wood, and owners who actually use the car, including on track.
Soft paint that rewards a light hand
Porsche clear coat is on the softer side, which is good news and bad news. Defects come out with relatively little cut, so correction is efficient — but the same softness means an aggressive pad or too much heat leaves haze that then needs a second refining stage. On special colours, and particularly on the paint-to-sample finishes, we measure and test-spot before committing to a combination.
Alcantara is the interior's weak point
Alcantara steering wheels, shift surrounds and headliners are common on GT and Turbo cars, and they fail predictably: body oils compress the pile until it is flat, shiny and darker than the surrounding trim. It is not dirt sitting on the surface, it is matted fibre. Low-moisture cleaning with mechanical agitation lifts it, but only while there is nap left to lift. Once it has glazed, the honest answer is improvement rather than reversal — which is why we would rather clean a wheel early and often than rescue one late.
Open-pore wood and painted trim
Open-pore wood is deliberately matte and minimally sealed. Any oily dressing builds a film on it and permanently changes the appearance, so it gets dry-cleaned with dedicated microfibre and nothing else. The gloss black surrounds in newer models scratch from towel choice rather than product, and get their own plush towels used in one direction.
Track use, brake dust and wheels
Cars that see COTA or a canyon run come back with hot brake dust embedded in the wheel face and rear bodywork. Ferrous particles etch if they sit, so iron decontamination is a routine part of the visit, not an upsell. On centre-lock and multi-spoke wheels we clean barrels and calipers by hand, and wheels can be removed by arrangement. Ceramic coating wheel faces is worth it here purely for how much easier dust removal becomes.
PDK, PCCB and the practical details
PDK cars and those with carbon-ceramic brakes need care around how the vehicle is moved and rolled during a wash, and PCCB discs should not be blasted with aggressive acidic wheel cleaners. We work with the car stationary and correctly supported, and we ask about brake specification before selecting chemistry.
Modified and widebody builds
We regularly work on modified 911s, including RWB widebody builds. Riveted arches, exposed hardware and non-factory paint change how a car should be washed and dried — water traps behind arch extensions and under aero, and it needs to be driven out rather than left to weep onto clean paint an hour later.

- Usually improved considerably, sometimes fully, depending on how compressed the pile is. We will tell you which of the two we expect before starting.
- Do you work on Macan and Cayenne as well as sports cars?
- Yes. Daily-driven SUVs typically need a maintenance and interior focus, while weekend cars lean toward correction and coating.
